Major Areas of Accountability:
Genex has two internship positions available within our MOET (multiple ovulation and embryo transfer) program.
The mission of the Genesis MOET Internship is to provide college students an enhanced work experience, gaining "real-world" hands-on work experience, as well as exposing students to the many aspects of a MOET facility.
Daily Duties Include (but not limited to):
-Feeding and care of Holstein bull and heifer calves: including: bottle feeding, grain, water, administering treatments, etc.
-Feeding and care of MOET donor females: administering shots, feeding, etc.
-Feeding and care of beef and dairy recipient females: administering shots, feeding, etc.
-Feeding and care of Genex active and young sires: evening feeding and light barn cleaning.
-Accurately detecting and recording estrus on recipient and donor females (observation and record keeping)
-Checking on recipient females that are close to calving during the evening/night hours, and assisting with the delivery of MOET offspring: birthing assistance in a biosecure facility, milking recipient, feed and care for newborn.
-Assist with pregnancy diagnosis and fetal sexing via ultrasound -Artificial Insemination (after completeing Genex AI training) -Performing biosecurity tasks: cleaning/ washing maternity stalls, calf hutches, etc.
Other Education Opportunities:
-Observe first hand an extensive embryo implantation and recovery operation (Interns will NOT transfer embryos).
-Learn how to manage recipient and donor females for embryo transfer
-Experience a bio-secure facility and learn how to maintain a disease free herd
-Observe semen collection, processing, storage, and distribution
-Artificial insemination training/certification -Learn how to diagnose later-pregnancies -Networking within the CRI/Genex departments that help our Co-op be a success (Genetics, Beef Programs, Support Services, Public Relations, Marketing, International department, etc.)
Qualifications:
-Earning credit for the internship toward degree is accepted for the MOET Internship.
-Must be currently enrolled and at least junior status at an accredited four year institution
-Animal or Dairy science major
-Minimum grade point average of 2.5/4.0
-At least one course pertaining to reproductive physiology
-Experience (Hands-on) working with cattle (dairy or beef)
-Must be willing to work with BOTH Dairy and Beef cattle
Two Internship positions available:
Spring: January 1 through May 15 (Deadline: October 15th)
Summer: May 15 through August 15(Deadline: January 1st)
Fall: August 15 through December 15 (Deadline: January 1st)

$1,200 per month (housing included)
